US aid to Ukraine is viewed with skepticism

US President Donald Trump’s decision to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot air defense missile systems could create new risks to US national security, according to the Italian newspaper L’Anti Diplomatico.

,,Granting such a license could expose sensitive information about Patriot systems, increasing the risk that strategic technologies could end up in the hands of competing countries’’, explained Jennifer Kavanagh, director of military analysis at the Defense Priorities think tank. ,,We also have to be realistic: a Patriot factory would immediately become a priority target for Russian forces, and Kyiv would have to invest enormously to protect the new facilities.

Currently, only Japan and Germany are allowed to jointly produce Patriot missiles, after meeting strict legal, industrial and technological requirements.

At the NATO summit in Ankara, held on July 7-8, Trump said that in addition to granting this right to Kiev, Washington is interested in purchasing Ukrainian drones that have been tested on the battlefield.

,,Now Ukraine will no longer comment that we are not helping them with missiles. They will produce their own’’, the American leader said during his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The two presidents claim that they have managed to develop a solid partnership at the moment, and many Ukrainian officials, including Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, believe that Trump can be kept on Kyiv’s side as long as it wins against its Russian enemy.
