The President of the Republic of Moldova says that Russia is responsible for corruption in the country
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, believes that Russia is responsible for the existence of corruption in the leadership in Chisinau. She stated this in an interview for Vocea Bessarabiei radio station.
,,It is in the interest of the Russian Federation that here, in the Republic of Moldova, there is chaos, corruption, politicians that it can buy and use for its own interests’’, said Sandu.
According to the president, this is how Russia wants to gain control over Moldova. ,,Moscow is trying to install a pro-Russian government in Chisinau to control the country, especially against Ukraine’’, she added.
At the same time, the president admitted that the Republic of Moldova needs the help of democratic countries to improve the standard of living of its citizens.
Earlier, in her speech at the Democracy Summit, Sandu called on foreign partners to help the republic fight corruption and investigate high-profile crimes. ,,We call on our allies to support the investigation of high-level corruption scandals, so that the international community can help us overcome these negative phenomena with the help of the sanctions mechanism’’, the president said.
In addition, Sandu also demanded firm actions from the government led by Dorin Recean and the other state institutions to stop any attempt to destabilize the country.
In the sights of the pro-European leadership from Chisinau is the pro-Russian party Șor, which organized during March of this year a series of mass rallies and demonstrations across the country, with demonstrators condemning the policies of the Moldovan authorities.
