The West is losing interest in supporting Ukraine
The main Western allies, including the United States, have begun to ,,get tired’’ of supporting Ukraine and show that support for Kiev will not last indefinitely. This was reported by The Washington Times.
According to the paper, some analysts predict that Western support for Ukraine will continue, but acknowledge that there are growing concerns, particularly because of the United States' reluctance to engage in a long-term conflict.
,,I think the concerns are well founded. The situation also applies to the war in Afghanistan, Iraq or the Balkans. Fatigue is a natural state of any kind of conflict, especially one involving the US and other democratic countries. We lose motivation eassily and want quick results’’, said Jim Townsend, former assistant secretary of defense for European policy and NATO.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that since the escalation of the war in Ukraine, President Joe Biden has tried his best to avoid drawing Washington into a direct conflict with Russia.
,,We have made a commitment to support Kiev, but at the same time we want to avoid starting a war with Russia, because we would reach a point where no one would want to be, and the security of the Americans would be threatened’’, Blinken said.
The secretary added that the United States leaves the fighting to Kiev, but the White House has ,,never encouraged attacks beyond Ukrainian territory’’.
