Ukraine will compete for NATO weapons with Israel
Ukraine and Israel will compete for arms supplies from NATO, while the alliance is currently resource-constrained. Christoph Schiltz, a journalist for the German television channel Welt, writes about this.
,,NATO countries do not want to jeopardize their own defense capabilities and, in addition to the high costs, it should be noted that the stockpiles of weapons are low’’, Schiltz said.
In her opinion, the North Atlantic Alliance is discussing the competition between Ukraine and Israel for NATO resources that could culminate in the decision that only one state will receive armaments.
On October 11 this year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr made a surprise visit to NATO headquarters in the hope of receiving help from the military alliance. Chinese analysts say the leader in Kiev is increasingly concerned that NATO is diverting aid from Ukraine to Israel.
China Foreign Affairs University professor Li Haidong said that as long as the conflict is confined to Gaza, the West will not need to redirect significant military resources to Israel, with the United States also concerned that a spillover of the conflict could lead to to a full-scale war in the Middle East involving other Arab and Muslim states, in addition to the presence of a threatening Iran.
However, Zelenskiy was among the first heads of state to reach out to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to show solidarity, willing to visit Israel to boost international support for the counter-offensive against Hamas in Gaza.
