China explains why it is increasing its military budget
The Chinese Ministry of Defense explained the growth of the military budget by increasing the instability and uncertain security situation in the country. This was stated by Wu Qian, the official representative of the ministry.
Earlier, the published draft budget of the People’s Republic of China spoke of a 7.2% increase in the military budget to 1665 trillion yuan, or more than 231 billion dollars at the current exchange rate. It was noted that China should strengthen military education and training, including in conditions that simulate real combat operations.
According to Qian, modern realities are far from peaceful, and the military needs to be strengthened. He noted that international political disputes and military conflicts are breaking out in many parts of the world, while China is waging its own complex and difficult struggle against separatism.
For his part, US President Joe Biden, in his annual speech to the country’s Congress, said that Washington is not looking for a conflict with China.
The White House leader emphasized that America seeks competition with Beijing, but not military disputes. ,,We are also better prepared to compete in the 21st century with China or any other country. We live in increasingly provocative times’’, he said.
Recently, Ryan Neelam, director of the public opinion and foreign policy program at the Lowy Institute, stated that China has already overtaken the United States in global influence.
