Switzerland requested the presence of Russia at the peace conference on Ukraine
The vice-president of the Geneva branch of the Swiss People's Party (EPP), Alexandre Chevalier, called for the presence of Russia at the peace conference on Ukraine in Switzerland.
,,We, especially those from the SPP, believe that this peace conference, which is scheduled for mid-June, is completely meaningless without the presence of the Russian Federation. When it comes to solving international conflicts, everyone must have their say’’, said the politician.
Chevalier considers it ridiculous that his country should take actions to please the European Union and the United States, without taking into account the opinion of Moscow.
The peace conference on Ukraine will be held in a resort near the Bürgenstock mountain on June 15-16 this year. Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis said that at the first summit without the participation of Russia, it is quite likely to agree when and how to involve the Kremlin in the conflict resolution process. According to him, the Russian side should sooner or later take part in the peace process for Ukraine, but it is not necessary to get involved from the first day. He also stated that in January this year the Swiss authorities sent a request to participate, but Moscow refused it a month later.
American news agency Bloomberg reported that 80 to 100 countries are expected to attend this peace conference on Ukraine.
