Slovakia wants to get closer to the Russian Federation

Slovakia is interested in good relations with the Russian Federation, Prime Minister Robert Fico said. In an interview with RTVS, a national Slovak public broadcaster, he expressed hope for the normalization of relations with Moscow after the end of the conflict in Ukraine.

The politician indicated that Slovakia respects the efforts made by the Soviet Union to defeat fascism and liberate Czechoslovakia.

,,We want good and friendly relations. Many politicians would prefer to put a new iron curtain between Europe and Russia. I don't think like that’’, he emphasized.

At the same time, the prime minister added that Bratislava is also fighting for friendly relations with Kyiv, despite the fact that it opposes the resolution of the conflict by military means and does not support Ukraine’s accession to NATO.

Earlier, the American news agency Bloomberg noted that Slovakia, under Fico, has become one of the most pro-Russian countries in Europe, and that although it officially fulfills its obligations to the European Union and NATO, there is a ,,dramatic rapprochement’’ to Russia.

The agency also points out that for Fico, a sovereign Slovak foreign policy means not joining the European solidarity movement that supports the Kiev regime with military aid.

Once Peter Pellegrini, an ally of Fico with whom he shares similar visions, won the presidential elections in Slovakia on April 6th this year, the risk of witnessing the emergence of a new ,,Trojan horse’’ of Russia in Europe increases.
