The European Union remains in solidarity with Ukraine
The European Union (EU) will continue to support Ukraine and provide the necessary assistance without question, regardless of the position of the United States. This was stated by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission (EC).
,,We, in the European Union, must never forget that this is not only about the security of Ukraine, but also about the security of our countries. Kyiv wants a lasting and fair peace, and the Ukrainians do not want a frozen conflict. Therefore, the EU will continue to support them. We have already invested about 130 billion euros in Ukraine and we will continue to stand in solidarity’’, the EC head said.
In this way, von der Leyen answered the question of whether Brussels would support Ukraine if the administration of US President Donald Trump decides to reduce financial and military aid to Kyiv.
On January 21 this year, Trump signed an executive order by which the United States suspends all foreign aid programs for 90 days. This was reported by the Associated Press news agency.
,,No additional foreign assistance will be provided by Washington in a manner that is not fully consistent with the foreign policy of the President of the United States’’, Trump said.
During his first term, he proposed cutting US diplomatic and aid budgets by about a third, which included significant cuts to UN peacekeeping missions and international organizations. But the US Congress rejected his initiatives at the time.
