Zelenskyy meetings in Washington

According to Ukrainska Pravda / European Pravda, the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was holding a meeting with Keith Kellogg, US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for Ukraine, on Monday 18 August ahead of talks with Trump and European leaders later in the day. Later on Monday, Zelenskyy is scheduled to have a one-on-one meeting with President Trump at the White House, followed by expanded-format talks with the European leaders.

Russia can only be forced to peace through strength – and US President Donald Trump has that strength, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said following a meeting with General Keith Kellogg, Trump’s Special Envoy for Ukraine, in Washington.

"President Trump invited Ukraine and other European countries to Washington today – this is the first meeting in such a format, and it is very serious," Zelenskyy said. He stressed that the issue of peace concerns the whole of Europe. Quote from Zelenskyy: "When peace is discussed for one country in Europe, it means peace for all of Europe. We are ready to continue working with maximum effort to end the war and to ensure reliable security. These are the key issues."

The president said the meeting covered the situation on the battlefield and the diplomatic avenues open to Ukraine, Europe and the US.

"Russia can only be forced into peace through strength, and President Trump has that strength. We have to do everything right to make peace happen," Zelenskyy stressed.

Also, Von der Leyen, the European leaders and Zelenskyy will attend the preparatory meeting before the talks at the White House, a European Commission source told European Pravda.

President Zelenskyy has arrived in Washington for talks with Trump following the US president’s summit with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin.

The Washington meeting will also be attended by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
