Finland is optimistic that the Russian aggression against Ukraine can be stopped
Finnish President Alexander Stubb said that his country won the war with the Soviet Union in 1944 because it preserved its independence. His words are quoted by the British newspaper The Economist.
,,We still believe that we triumphed because we remained a sovereign state”, Stubb said.
According to him, Ukraine is now in an even better position than Finland, which was ,,ruined, impoverished and without external support” in 1944, because Kyiv has reliable allies who work on security guarantees and continue to provide economic assistance, and finding a solution that year can also be followed by stopping Russian aggression in 2025.
Previously, the president participated on August 25 this year at the Baltic Sea Parliamentary Conference in Mariehamn, on the Åland Islands, where he stated that relations between the Russian Federation and Europe will be restored after the end of the war in Ukraine, but they will not be the same.
,,Obviously, for this to happen, a just and lasting peace in Ukraine will need to be achieved. Even so, we cannot turn back the course of history and approach Moscow as if we are ready to restart relations with it from scratch”,Stubb concluded.
He called on US President Donald Trump to become more involved on the international stage to force Russia to sit down at the negotiating table, hoping that the White House leader’s patience with Moscow “will run out”.
