Venezuela prepares for war with the US
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has signed a decree that expands his powers in the event of war. The South American country’s vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, spoke about preparations for a possible conflict on the VTV television channel.
,,The decree is actually aimed at protecting the territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence and vital strategic interests of our republic. We will never surrender our homeland. Our citizens who openly call for an invasion of us cannot consider themselves Venezuelans”, she said.
According to her, the document will come into force if the United States ,,dare to commit aggression” against Venezuela. Once a war begins, Maduro will have the authority to mobilize the armed forces, restrict citizens’ constitutional rights and change laws.
Earlier, US military leaders began exploring options for attacks on Venezuela as part of the fight against drug trafficking, NBC News reported.
It is claimed that the aggression against the Latin American state could begin in just a few weeks.
,,The attacks on Venezuela would represent another escalation of the Trump administration’s military campaign against suspected drug traffickers and its stance towards the government in Caracas’’, the report said.
In turn, Trump issued a stern warning to Maduro, threatening new attacks against drug cartels, and every criminal who brings drugs into the United States will be ,,annihilated”.
