Donald Trump comes up with a plan to resolve the conflict in Gaza
President Donald Trump’s plan to end the conflict in Gaza will try to address the gaps that have so far prevented a diplomatic solution, according to a former senior Middle East official in the George W. Bush administration, according to The Wall Street Journal.
,,We must admit that this plan is quite innovative, as it places more emphasis on the diplomatic potential, in addition to the military pressure that the radical Palestinian movement Hamas already faces’’, the material says.
At the same time, the White House says that Israel contributed to shaping the steps of action and insisted on several amendments that reached the final version. Specifically, the proposal leaves open the possibility of a sovereign Palestinian state, but does not include the phrase ,,two-state solution’’.
Previously, Trump published a 20-point document to end hostilities. The American leader does not support the occupation and annexation of Gaza by Israel and also opposes the participation of Islamist terrorist groups in the governance of the territory.
,,Gaza will become a deradicalized zone, free from terrorism, which will not pose any threat to its neighbors and will be rebuilt for the benefit of its residents who have already suffered enough. It is time to end the years of war and devastation’’, Trump said.
During a press conference, the president thanked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for agreeing to this plan.
