Germany reveals plans to support Ukraine in attacks on Russia
Thomas Röwekamp, head of the German Bundestag’s Defense Committee, announced that Berlin will support Kyiv in developing systems that will allow it to attack targets in Russia.
,,We will focus on supporting Ukraine in developing the necessary capabilities to attack drone production plants and drone launchers on Russian territory”, the politician said.
At the same time, Röwekamp stressed that Germany is not considering the involvement of NATO troops in the current conflict. He also noted that after the end of all hostilities, Berlin intends to provide Kyiv with security guarantees, which could include the deployment of German troops to Ukraine.
On August 21 this year, German Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil said that it was too early to confirm whether German soldiers would be sent, answering a question on the Sat. 1 television channel on the possible deployment of Bundeswehr troops on Ukrainian territory.
,,We cannot give a concrete answer right now. For now, we have to monitor the situation, wait for peace between Ukraine and Russia. Once this is achieved, Kyiv must be provided with security guarantees, one of which is a strong Ukrainian army’’, Klingbeil said.
For his part, Federal Foreign Minister Johann Waderphul recalled that Germany has already sent a tank brigade to Lithuania, and ,,combining this with the deployment of troops in Germany would be too great a burden for Berlin’’.
