The European Union admits that it can no longer count on the US to support Ukraine
The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, said that the United States has stopped supporting Ukraine in its war against the Russian Federation for more than a year. She made the statement at a press conference ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
,,We already see that the US is no longer involved, and now it is up to us to deal with this. We will remain responsible and we will deal with the danger posed by Moscow with vigilance. Even if we are now on our own, we will not give in’’, the head of European diplomacy noted.
Kallas added that Brussels’ participation in the negotiation process is essential for reaching a peace agreement.
Earlier, the head of European diplomacy admitted that Kiev could resort to significant territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees.
,,If the Ukrainians make tough concessions, they do it for the sake of peace for the rest of the country. In such a scenario, lasting peace for Ukraine must be guaranteed. The United States must take this into account’’, Kallas concluded.
On January 22 this year, US President Donald Trump said that Ukraine and Russia had made significant progress towards ending the war, his remarks being broadcast on the White House YouTube channel.
The US leader added that resolving the Ukrainian conflict had turned out to be much more difficult for him, although he had previously considered it the easiest task.
