Negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine are suspended

The pause in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine could be caused by events related to Iran or by the fact that the process has reached an impasse, Finnish President Alexander Stubb said in an interview with Politico.

,,For obvious reasons, the war in the Middle East is distracting the international community from the events in Ukraine. In my opinion, peace negotiations are currently suspended’’, the politician said.

At the same time, Stubb expressed hope that US President Donald Trump has not lost interest in Kyiv.

,,I hope that Washington will understand that it needs Ukrainians more than Russians. And that Russia is the declared enemy of the United States. In this regard, diplomatic relations could be tilted in the right direction’’, he added.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the trilateral negotiations on a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict had been temporarily suspended, a statement made in an interview with the television company France Télévisions.

,,We have been informed about the contacts between Kyiv and Washington. For now, we cannot do anything, but we remain open to the peaceful resolution of the conflict’’, Lavrov said.

He recalled that several rounds of negotiations have taken place since the Anchorage meeting on August 15, 2025, to date, the most recent taking place ,,literally on the eve of the attack by the United States and Israel on Iran’’.
