Romania supports its strategic partners and peace efforts in Syria

The entire hierarchical system of representation and political decision-making in Romania in the field of foreign policy (Presidency, Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) reaffirms the need to resolve the conflict in Syria and express its solidarity with the military measures of the strategic partners (USA, Great Britain and France) in Syria, which is an adequate and necessary response to the use of chemical weapons in this country.
President Klaus Iohannis stated on Saturday that "Romania further condemns the use of chemical weapons in Syria, which is beyond any justification. We stand in solidarity with the actions of our strategic partners".
The Romanian Government "reiterates, in the strongest terms, the use of the chemical attack of April 7, 2018, with civilian casualties. Romania supports and agrees with the firm response of the United States, Great Britain and France to Syria as a result of the chemical attack and reaffirms its strong support for any international community effort to end the conflict in Syria”.
According to the MFA press release on the situation in Syria, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania reiterates the firm condemnation of the use of chemical weapons in any circumstances, under any circumstances, the commission of such acts having no justification. The worrying reports of a chemical weapons attack on 7 April 2018 against the population of Douma in Syria must be investigated urgently, in an independent and impartial manner. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advocates for the prosecution of persons guilty of committing such an act to be held accountable”.
MFA Romania appreciates that "the action taken by the United States, the United Kingdom and France on 14 April, is a firm response to the atrocities that have resulted in numerous casualties among the civilian population in Douma, facing the devastating consequences of a war that needs to be concluded as soon as possible. Romania is in solidarity with its allies and strategic partners. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms the need to resolve the conflict in Syria, which has caused suffering to the Syrian population. It also considers it essential that all parties involved in the Syrian case continue to actively support the UN's efforts to end this crisis, based on the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, in particular Resolution 2254/2015 and the Geneva Communiqué (2012)”.
"Romania firmly condemns the use of chemical weapons in any circumstances, but particularly when they are used against civilians”, Foreign Affairs Minister Teodor Melescanu said on Thursday. Melescanu was asked during a joint press statement with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian about a possible international military response to the chemical attack in Syria. „Romania firmly condemns the use of chemical weapons in any circumstances, but particularly when they are used against civilians. We strongly support the idea of investigating, of putting at the disposal of the special body, a body that must be impartial and independent, all the data to be able to see what the realities on field are, and, secondly, the measures that should be taken on the international society level," Melescanu said.
Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Teodor Melescanu, on Monday is set to participate in the reunion of the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), which will take place in Luxembourg, where he will discuss, among other topics, the current developments in Syria.
