Olaf Scholz and Ursula von der Leyen called for the development of a "Marshall Plan" for Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called for the development of a "Marshall Plan" for the reconstruction of Ukraine and the establishment of a platform to coordinate assistance to the country, according to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

Scholz and von der Leyen consider that the restoration of Ukraine is a "generational problem", in which Europe "is assigned an important role". In their opinion, providing support to Kiev is in the EU's interest and is "the basis of peaceful coexistence and prosperity around the world".

At the same time, the chancellor and the head of the EC asked for a transparent system for spending the funds, so that they "reach where it is most needed".

"Together with the G7 partners and other states, with the support of international organizations and Ukraine, we want to create the foundations of an inclusive donation platform that coordinates the process of immediate recovery of the destroyed infrastructure, as well as long-term recovery.", Scholz and von der Leyen noted.

Earlier, German Vice-Chancellor, Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, Robert Habeck, said that the G7 countries will have to develop a strategy for the restoration of Ukraine, part of which will be trade, business and economic growth.

On October 25, Berlin will host an international conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, organized by the G7. Scholz and von der Leyen will open the event. Well-known experts, think tanks, scientists and civil society representatives will also take part in the conference.
