Algeria applied for BRICS membership
According to EADaily, Algeria has submitted an official request to join BRICS, information reported by local media with reference to the official envoy of the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Arab state maintains close ties with Russia, with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune scheduled to visit Moscow in December, where the two countries will sign a multibillion-dollar deal to supply Russian arms.
As reported by EADaily, in August, Tebboune stated that Algeria is ready to become a member of BRICS, being convinced that his country as a whole meets the criteria to be welcomed into the alliance.
"Joining this group will remove Algeria, the pioneer of the principle of non-alignment, from the attraction of the two poles," said the president.
Algeria is one of the largest Arab states: the Arab League summit was recently held in Algiers, the capital of the country, which became an example of Algeria's activation on the world stage. It is worth noting that the final communique of the summit contains a neutral language regarding Russia's special operation in Ukraine, which emphasizes Algeria's balanced approach in the sphere of international relations and the desire to actively participate in the formation of a new world order. Algeria's accession to BRICS will undoubtedly lead to the strengthening of the positions of both this state and the Arab League at the global level.
At the end of June, Argentina and Iran submitted applications to join BRICS. The organization's international forum says Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia also want to join.
