Maia Sandu supports the intention to ban the Moldovan opposition party ,,Șor”

The president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, supported the intention to ban the opposition party in the country, ,,Șor”.

"If a party is financed by "dirty money", then we are talking about corruption. Once the government considers that there are sufficient arguments to appeal to the Constitutional Court, then it will express its point of view,'' Sandu said.

According to the president, the authorities should ensure that every political party in the republic complies with the financing law.

Previously, the leader of the ,,Șor” party, Ilan Șor, accused the Moldovan authorities of wanting to ban the party so that the opposition MPs would lose their mandates and so that the pro-European government would obtain a constitutional majority and be able to apply to NATO. He appealed to the population to continue the protests in the republic in order to "protect" its security and sovereignty.

On November 8, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, Sergiu Litvinenco, submitted to the Constitutional Court of the country a request to outlaw the opposition party. According to him, Sor is to blame for the destabilization of the situation in Moldova, illegal financing and lobbying for the interests of a foreign state.

The representatives of the ,,Șor’’ party claim that Litvinenco's decision is illegal and they will challenge it in court.

Two weeks ago, the United States announced sanctions against Șor and the formation he leads, because they would defend Moscow's interests, being financed by those close to the Kremlin.
