Joe Biden: The fighting in Ukraine is now at a key moment
US President Joe Biden said in an interview with reporters at a meeting of his cabinet that the conflict in Ukraine is at a critical moment, and Washington must do everything possible to support the regime in Kyiv, Reuters news agency reports.
According to the president, he had on January 5 this year a ,,long discussion’’ with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the situation in Ukraine and cooperation within ,,Western alliances’’.
,,We discussed what we will do and decided to expand support for Ukraine. We, the United States, will provide Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles (MLIs), and the Germans will provide their Marder vehicles. In addition, we will help Ukraine defend itself against Russian airstrikes’’, Biden said. The White House also mentioned that Germany wants to supply Ukraine with Patriot surface-to-air missile systems.
Biden claimed that these missile systems have already demonstrated their effectiveness in Ukraine, although Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitri Kuleba said on January 4 that preparations for the transfer of Patriot systems to Kyiv have just begun. ,,The Ukrainian military is working hard to be at advantage, which the Russians are also aware of’’, concluded the president.
Patrick Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman and Air Force brigadier general, said that US authorities are considering the option of conducting combat training for Ukrainian soldiers on the use of Patriot systems on US soil.
