Hungary refused to transport weapons for Ukraine on its territory

Hungary refuses to transport arms for Ukraine to its territory out of concern not only for its own safety, but also for the well-being of ethnic Hungarians living on Ukrainian territory in Transcarpathia. This was stated by Gergely Gulyás, the head of the cabinet of the prime minister of Hungary, according to the TASS news portal.

,,Hungary has a special geopolitical situation, namely that we could transport weapons to Ukraine only through Transcarpathia, so we will not participate in the supply. It is necessary that the hundreds of thousands of Hungarians living there be protected’’, explained Gulyás.

The head of the office also commented on the delivery of heavy equipment to Kyiv. In his opinion, although no one can question the moral basis of supplying Ukraine with weapons, ,,everyone, including the German government, wants to avoid a world war’’.

Earlier, Hungarian President Katalin Novák warned NATO not to get directly involved in the war in Ukraine, believing that the North Atlantic Alliance should be guided by pragmatism and think about the survival of Europe.

,,It is wise to stay away from war, not to give in to emotions and engage in a conflict recklessly’’, the president said at a meeting with foreign ambassadors working in Hungary.

For his part, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó explained the desire of the European Union to introduce new sanctions against Russia. According to the minister, Brussels wants to continue punishing Moscow in order to ,,justify the wrong decisions that cause damage’’.
