Emmanuel Macron called the priority in supporting Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron named the priority direction in military assistance to Ukraine, Reuters news agency reports.

According to him, Paris should focus on the supply of artillery, in which the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have already been trained. He also mentioned that, perhaps, in the coming days, the allies will consider intensifying the transfer of such military equipment.

It clarifies that France respects its current priority of providing rapid support to Kyiv, although the supply of weapons cannot be carried out in the short term. The president emphasized that it will take a long time for Ukrainian pilots to train on fighter jets.

The French leader said he had not discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy the issue of providing Western fighter jets to Kiev.

,,No, we didn't touch on this topic’’, Macron commented briefly on this topic upon arriving at the European Union summit in Brussels on February 9, where the main items on the agenda were Russia's military aggression against Ukraine, the economic situation in the EU and migration.

For his part, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak noted that the start of Ukrainian pilot training was the first step to ensure that the Ukrainian military can fly British fighter jets. ,,To be able to send to Kiev advanced aircraft, we must first of all have soldiers or pilots capable of using them. This is a process that takes a long time, but we have already started it’’, said Sunak.

The prime minister also added that he does not rule out any option of military assistance for Ukraine.
