The Norwegian Ministry of Defense announced the shipment of eight tanks to Ukraine

Norway will transfer to Ukraine eight tanks and up to four support vehicles, as well as funds for the purchase of spare parts and ammunition, the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom reports on its official website.

,,The decision to deliver Leopard 2 tanks and support vehicles was made following a dialogue both with the Commander-in-Chief of Defense and with other European countries. The situation in Ukraine is approaching a critical phase and depends on massive and rapid support from the West. We will also participate in the training of Ukrainian tanks in Poland together with our partners’’, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram said.

Norway supports Ukraine with weapons, with the Nordic country also adhering to Western sanctions against Russia. In early February of this year, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said that the Kingdom could use some of the increased oil revenues to provide military assistance to Kyiv. In addition, the government in Oslo intends to provide funds to combat the ,,global’’ consequences of the Russian aggression.

Norway is one of Europe’s biggest exporters of fossil fuels, and the conflict in Ukraine has boosted its gas profits. However, Oslo has dismissed the rumors that it stands to gain from this war.

The rush of European countries to secure alternative energy sources has dramatically increased the demand and price for the Norwegian oil and gas.
