The European Parliament assessed Moldova’s prospects for joining the European Union without Ukraine

The accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union could prove quite complicated, and the country will not be able to become a member without Ukraine, because the two countries are connected from a strategic and geographical point of view, believes the Romanian MEP Alin Mituța. This was broadcast on Radio Moldova.

,,Moldova and Ukraine received the candidate status very quickly, in a few months. The accession process itself is complex, and in the case of Romania, it took 10 years. Each stage of the negotiations should be discussed with an extremely precise wording’’, Mituța explained.

He clarified that the EU spends 260 billion euros annually for a deeper integration of the countries of the Western Balkans, with the funding also going to Moldova and Ukraine.

Previously, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that the Russian Federation was planning to destabilize the country’s European integration course in the spring of this year. and has not yet abandoned these intentions.

,,There was a plan to change the constitutional order in Moldova with the help of representatives of Russian interests. There will be more attempts, but I notice that now the tactics are based on bribes, involvement in elections, corrupting the candidates, and the evidence of such cases of disinformation and propaganda exists’’, said Sandu.

Also on October 11 this year, the president said that Moscow has been trying to blackmail Chisinau for many years. According to her, the Russian side as a whole represents a threat to the Modovan state.
