The benefits sought by Erdoğan by supporting the ,,peace plan’’ of Volodymyr Zelenskiy – opinion

,,President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is trying to present his country in international politics as a mediator, which is why he supported the ,,peace plan’’ of Ukraine. He will continue to make such statements because he wants to increase his own rating amid the presidential elections’’, said the Russian political scientist Aleksandr Asafov in an interview with the Life news agency.

According to the expert, the Turkish president is willing to discuss any topic with everyone, make statements, reach any agreement and hold telephone conversations, so participate in international politics in all possible ways to grow in the eyes of the voters.

Asafov noted that Turkey is putting forward to Sweden ,,almost impossible to fulfill’’ conditions for Stockholm to join NATO, as Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also stated. Imposing difficult demands on Sweden influences the electorate to see Erdoğan as a tactical and strong leader.

,,But how should we react? We have already specified our position towards Turkey and Erdoğan: we are ready for negotiations, but only under the conditions that we have specified repeatedly’’, concluded the political scientist.

,,In Istanbul, in March last year, there were certain developments, but new parameters and realities have already appeared. Russia has expressed readiness for negotiations, and Zelenskiy has proposed a 10-point plan. We, Turkey, support this plan. We also set our goal to preside over some points’’, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said at a press conference in South Africa.
