Putin has proposed responding to Western sanctions by expanding economic freedoms
Russia, in response to Western sanctions, should expand economic freedoms, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a broadcast where he met with the General Prosecutor's Office Management Council. The show was hosted by the RBC media agency.
,,We must respond to all the actions of our enemies in one way – by expanding economic freedoms. Obviously, everything must be within the limits of the law. Such a task is delicate and I ask you (prosecutors) to take care of it’’, said the president.
According to Putin, the Russian economy and the business environment are ,,responding decently’’ to the ,,aggression of sanctions’’ coming from the West. He asked prosecutors to help maintain this ,,balance’’.
On March 14 of this year, the head of state told the Rossiya 24 television channel that the most important result achieved by Russia in the previous year was the strengthening of the country’s economic sovereignty, a special merit having the professional actions of the banking community, the government agencies and the efforts of the Central Bank .
,,The West hoped that the Russian economy would collapse in two to three weeks or a month (after the start of the war in Ukraine). However, the basic elements of Russia’s stability are much stronger than anyone would have thought’’, Putin said.
In the opinion of the president, Russia must revise the rules of the Criminal Code and decriminalize economic crimes. At the same time, private businesses, in the context of ,,external attempts to control Russia’’, can adapt to the changing conditions.
