Germany offers a new package of military support to Ukraine
Germany supplied Ukraine with another 22 Leopard 1A5 tanks. Three Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, an amount of 61 thousand 155 mm artillery ammunition and a thousand small arms bullets were also sent to Kiev.
Berlin plans to approve the transfer of an additional 397 million euros in military aid to Ukraine. The Reuters news agency reports this with reference to a statement from the German Ministry of Finance to the budget committee of the lower house of the Bundestag.
,,Due to the continued deterioration of the military situation in Ukraine, there is a serious risk that the country, without a significant increase in material support, will be defeated in its defense campaign’’, the statement said.
The finance department noted that the unplanned need for additional funds only became concrete in recent weeks to the extent that it meets constitutional and budgetary requirements.
It also clarifies that additional assistance must be approved immediately so that the measures are implemented in a.c. and be able to have an impact on the frontline situation by the end of 2024.
Earlier, a public opinion poll revealed that only 3 percent of Germans have a positive opinion of the activities of the ruling coalition, made up of the Social Democratic Party, the Free Democratic Party and the Green Party. At the same time, 29% of surveyed Germans believe that an opposition coalition formed by the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union should lead the government.
