Three European states want to strengthen their support for Ukraine

The so-called “European Trio” (the United Kingdom, France and Germany) have decided to strengthen their support for Ukraine in the near future, according to the British government’s website.

It is noted that on May 22 this year, an online meeting took place between British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

,,The leaders paid tribute to the strength and courage of the Ukrainian people and confirmed that they will step up their support in the coming months. Countering Russian aggression remains vital for European and global security’’, the statement said.

France has expressed interest in joining the Anglo-German plan for the production of new long-range missiles. This was reported exclusively by the Financial Times newspaper.

The program, announced by London and Berlin in 2024 as the spearhead of their defense agreement, aims to produce an arsenal of advanced land-based missiles with a range of over 2000 km, capable of hitting military targets on Russian territory. European states already possess a number of conventional missiles with a range of around 300 km or more, but these are launched almost exclusively from ships or aircraft. Thus, European fighter jets, warships or submarines are currently forced to enter disputed airspace and waters to attack targets deep inside Russian territory.
