The far right in Germany questions the Ukrainian offensive in the Kursk region
A group of German Bundestag deputies from the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party said the invasion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) in the Kursk region increases the risks of conflict escalation and reduces the possibility of peace negotiations. AfD members cited various dangerous consequences of the attack by Ukrainian soldiers as part of a parliamentary request to the German government.
The parliamentarians recalled that, according to the information of a number of Western experts, the UAF offensive in Kursk is associated with ,,high risks’’ and can be considered ,,unsustainable from a military point of view’’.
,,Not least from the point of view of the possible use on Russian territory of weapons supplied by Germany to Ukraine and the associated potential for escalation, as well as the political-historical symbolic effect, we are concerned that any possibility of Moscow and Kyiv negotiating will be compromised’’, the document states.
In this regard, they question the government about its attitude towards what is happening in the Russian region. In particular, they are interested in whether the UAF used German weapons there.
,,Does the federal government believe that the use of German tanks against Russia, and possibly in Russia, against the background of the Battle of Kursk in 1943, is problematic, evokes historical memories and could lead to a much fiercer war?’’ the Afd deputies asked.
Ukraine, struggling in the east, launched a major attack on August 6 this year in the Kursk region, conquering hundreds of square kilometers, according to Kyiv.
