Olaf Scholz’s visit to Kyiv
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz paid a visit to Kiev on December 2 this year. This was reported by the Deutsche Presse-Agentur news agency.
,,The Chancellor made a trip to Ukraine for the first time in 2.5 years for negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’’, the agency reported.
Earlier, on November 29, it was confirmed that Scholz had revealed to the Ukrainian leader the details of his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Zelensky confirmed this on his Telegram page.
Scholz and Putin had a telephone conversation on November 15. According to information provided by the German government, the conversation between the two politicians lasted about an hour.
During the visit to Kyiv, the Chancellor promised the Ukrainian people that Berlin would provide all its support against Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, through which Putin ,,wants people to freeze this winter in Ukraine’’.
Scholz also said that Germany will deliver new air defense systems next year and stressed that his visit represents his country's unconditional support for Ukraine.
,,I will convey to Putin very clearly: We will stand by the Ukrainians as long as necessary!’’, said the Chancellor.
Zelensky wanted to tell him that peace with the Kremlin regime will only be possible with more Western weapons and well-prepared diplomacy, almost three years after the launch of the Russian invasion.
