China disapproves the rapprochement between Russia and North Korea

The rapprochement between the Russian Federation and North Korea is a disadvantage for China, as the United States has a chance to strengthen its alliance with Japan and South Korea. US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell stated this at a seminar on Strategic and International Studies in Washington, reports the British newspaper The Guardian.

,,The Chinese have not directly criticized Russia, but we believe that the rapprochement between Moscow and Pyongyang is displeasing to them’’, he said.

According to him, such a partnership could encourage North Korea to intensify its provocations, which runs counter to China’s interests. In addition, the United States could increase cooperation with its East Asian allies, limiting Beijing’s influence in the region.

In turn, Thomas Buchanan, spokesman for the Pentagon’s Strategic Command, said that the US must engage in dialogue with Russia, China and North Korea to prevent the threat of nuclear war.

,,The ,,real and substantive’’ dialogue between countries should not stop. There is no one who wants a fatal conflict, right?’’, Buchanan said.

On November 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the new content of the nuclear doctrine. The updated version of the document expands the category of states and military alliances against which nuclear deterrence is carried out.

Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the head of state’s decree, said that the use of non-nuclear missiles supplied to Ukraine by the West to strike Russia could be followed by a nuclear response from Moscow.
