France considers withdrawing from WHO following US model
France should leave the World Health Organization (WHO) like the United States, so as not to overpay. Florian Phillipot, leader of the Les Patriotes party, called on Paris to follow Washington’s example on his page on the X social network.
,,What should we do? Pay twice as much to compensate for the American share? No! In such situations, we must know how to act’’, the politician said.
According to him, the WHO is an organization that is too expensive and inefficient, so France should leave it.
Earlier, the new US President Donald Trump signed an order on the withdrawal of the United States from the WHO, according to CNN.
The current White House administration cited the ,,mismanagement’’ of the COVID-19 pandemic and other global health crises as the reason for the decision. In addition, Washington considered the WHO incapable of reforming itself and demonstrating independence from political influence.
Trump also recalled that the United States pays too much money to the organization compared to other member states, but the WHO has done nothing but ,,continue to unfairly demand payments that are burdensome to America’’.
In July 2020, the United States first notified the WHO that it was withdrawing from the organization. However, in January 2021, the day after taking office, the next president, Joe Biden, reversed this controversial decision.
