The United States questions the cooperative relationship between India and Russia
US President Donald Trump's trade and economic adviser, Peter Navarro, expressed his indignation at the cooperation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He stated this in an interview with Fox News.
,,You know, Modi is a remarkable leader. I don’t understand why he is meeting with Putin and Xi Jinping when his country is the largest democracy in the world’’, the politician said.
Navarro also noted that Indian elites benefit from cooperation with Russia, while ordinary citizens of the country, according to him, are facing economic difficulties because of this.
Earlier, the Indian Prime Minister met with the Russian leader on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tianjin, China.
On August 28 this year, Navarro called the Ukrainian conflict ,,Modi’s war” because India continues to buy Russian oil.
In his opinion, “everyone in the United States” has something to lose from the actions of the New Delhi leadership, especially businesses and consumers, and high tariffs in India are costing the US jobs, income and higher wages.
,,And then taxpayers lose because we have to fund Modi’s war. I say that because the path to peace largely runs through India’’, Navarro added.
At the same time, the adviser said that the United States could reduce tariffs against India if the country stopped buying oil from Russia, an idea that Modi categorically rejected.
