Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak: Ukraine army to get 20 new types of weapons in 2019
Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak says Ukraine is about to enter a new phase of the development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Official has said the state defense order for this year is "very optimistic," since it provides for the delivery of at least 20 new types of weapons to the Ukrainian army. Poltorak says Ukraine is about to enter a new phase of the development of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, namely it will produce more new weapons instead of repairing old ones. "We are working to move to a new level of the development of the Armed Forces, to stop repairing old weapons and old military equipment and start producing new ones – this is absolutely true," he said.
Poltorak said also Ukraine was doing everything possible to ensure the safety of its seaports. He says Ukraine is staking measures to boost its defensive capabilities at sea. "The fact that we are working to enhance our capabilities at sea is true. The fact that we are doing everything possible to ensure our presence in the Sea of Azov is also true," he told journalists in Kharkiv. In addition, Poltorak said Ukraine was doing everything possible to ensure the safety of its seaports.
